Adoption!
Some of you will remember we took in two kitties that belonged to Melissa Heinzen, a big rescuer in the feral cat colonies in Delta. She spent many years and lots of her own money to make sure the ferals were fed and taken care of. She passed away last month and Lady and Smokey were two of her own precious babies. We vowed to send them to a new home together which can be a challenge finding someone wanting two adult cats. However, we felt they should get to stay together. Well a Grand Junction family with two kids saw their ad and decided they wanted to meet these girls. They were able to get a break in their schedule and run down to Paonia to interview them and fell in love! They will have lots of people to give them attention and love them forever. We know Melissa is looking down with a smile on her face! Success!
Backstory: Lady and Smokey are two favorites from the home of an amazing animal advocate on the Western Slope, Melissa. Melissa passed away in early January and she will be sorely missed. It is our honor to foster Lady and Smokey. The organization Tails posted a wonderful tribute to her on their facebook page:
In loving memory of Melissa. A wonderful animal advocate who tirelessly cared for the free-roaming kitties of Delta for years and years. We hope you are with all your loved ones, furry and non.
These sound like two amazing cats and will go to someone special!
